      It’s Thursday again; Thursday that made my day unlucky. It feels like my whole world turns into hell, my heart broke into pieces. I am so weak and undefined at that time. I don’t know what I supposed to do in this day, why? Guess what? Guess what happened in this whole entire day. Do you want to know the whole story?

Well of course you want to know. So here it is.

This is the story.

             Ma’am Gallardo taught us on how to work on Microsoft excel having sheets and charts. It’s so cute, me, Rhona and Arrah feels chill and relax because we are very comfortable in our team and we are following the directions of what Ma’am Gallardo has taught to us, like putting information and convert it into chart. Yes! So happy; we’ve learned a lot at that time and now after ma’am Gallardo discussed. We need to do or create sheets with information in our own groups. We easily do that, we were very happy and lucky at that time especially when we are about to finish our work something terrible happened! Our works suddenly stop! It is not functioning it suddenly turns to black! Like OMG were about to finish our work and then its stop! What will going to do?! We need to hurry up and starts thinking because were about to time out. But were having not enough time for doing the same thing that we’ve done earlier so we type as we could, we pray. And yes! After its stop functioning our work disappears we do not know where it is. So type and type and type until we succeed. but hmmft…. Suddenly we did not finished it because it is already time. Ouch! Feels hurt. I swear at that time I was so weak. And I know that we got a low score for doing that mistake. Hmmft.

     God knows the truth that we did our best so better luck next time I think I should always check my Computer.

 

 

“EXPLORING THE WORLD OF COMPUTERS”

      Tuesday! Second day of the week, another day of engaging my world in computers! Tadaaaaaahhhh!

       We’ve done creating on the four documents wherein Ma’am Gallardo taught us how to change and add the font in our Microsoft word. At first we cannot follow it because I am not so familiar with that activity especially in the words that Ma’am Gallardos’ sayings.

      But then because of patients, we successfully allowed it. It is a hard time but challenging. Like putting your names line, double line, hide it, and so on. Putting members, numbering, and lettering. Yes! I already knew that but I didn’t exactly know how it can be like that. That’s why I love doing this!

“ENTERING THE WORLD OF COMPUTERS”

        It is Thursday again; one hour in education 5B, last meeting Ma’am Gallardo told us that we need to bring our own laptop, so now I brought it. Ma’am Gallardo grouped us, each group need one laptop and its member should only have three members. Honestly, I don’t know what to do because it is a new activity again.  But I feel excited because we will be dealing at computers, so in this day I expect to learn more about using my computer not just for fun but for educational purposes.

         As what I’ve expected I learned a lot this day, yes we started at the basic wherein we are typing our names in Microsoft word, but we are exploring our knowledge especially in doing or putting some designs in what we’ve creating or forming in our documents, especially in putting privacy to our works. I love it very much. In forming portrait to landscape, landscape to portrait. Even though I’ve already know about that but this time it’s alternate and broad. We are inserting tables, coloring it and putting it some designs, so this day we have three done activities.

      It is Tuesday! Once again a happy start of school weekday since it is holiday yesterday Monday.

Happy Life!

         A good day for everyone, this day Ma’am Gallardo discuss two topics which is lesson 12 and lesson 13 it is about information technology in support of student-centered learning and about Cooperative learning with computer.

   Cooperative or Collaborative Learning is learning is learning by small groups of students who work together in a common learning task. It is often also called group learning; there are 5 elements that are needed.

  1. A common goal
  2. Interdependence
  3. Interaction
  4. Individual accountability
  5. Social skills

And there are advantages working in cooperative or collaborative learning;

  • Encourages active learning, while motivating students
  • Increases academic performance
  • Promotes literacy and language skills; and
  • Improves teacher effectiveness

In addition, there are ICT elements

  • Handwork – can be seen/touch
  • People ware – they are the one that can manipulate computers
  • Software – it can be seen but cannot touch
  • Another kind of software is utilities

Others are;

  • Data
  • Procedure
  • Communication

Researchers agree that the computer is a fairly natural learning vehicle for cooperative (at times called promotive ) learning.

How can you say that the classroom is traditional?

     If classrooms are usually arranged with neat columns and rows of student chairs, while the teacher stands in front of the classroom or sits behind his/her desk.

 

 

How can you say that the class is in student centered learning?

         The idea of Student – Centered Learning is not a recent idea. In fact, as early as the 2oth century, educational educators such as JOHN DEWEY argued for highly active and individualized pedagogical methods which place the student at the center of the teaching-learning process.

      Educator John Dewey originated the experimental-ism philosophy. A proponent of social change and education reform, he founded The New School for Social Research.

        You can say that the class is undergoing in SCL when the student can performed computer word processing for text or graph presentations, prepared PowerPoint presentation, searched for information on the internet, brainstorming on ideas ,problems and project plan as needed, the teacher facilitating instruction, also gives individualized instruction to serve individual needs.

 

THE COMPUTER AS THE TEACHER’S TOOL

     We already know what computer is but this time let’s make computer as a Teacher’s tool on how a teacher can use the computer is this good for the teacher?

          The Computer as the teacher’s handy tool. It can fact support the constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of learning.

Constructivism introduced by Piaget ( 1981) and Banner (1990). They gave stress to knowledge discovery of new meaning/ concepts/ principles in learning process. While social constructivism is an effort to show that the construction of knowledge is general by social, historical and cultural contexts.

What are the computers capabilities?

As present, the teacher can employ the computer as a/an”

  • Informative tool- computer can provide vast amounts of information in various forms, such as text, graphics, sound, and video.
  • Constructive tool- the computer itself can be used for manipulating information, visualizing one’s understanding, and building new knowledge.
  • Co-constructive tools- students can use co constructive tools to work cooperatively and construct a shared understanding of new knowledge.
  • Situating tool- by means of virtual reality (RS) extension systems, the computer can create 3D images on display to give the user the feeling that are situated in a virtual environment.

 

 

THE COMPUTEER AS TUTOR

Computer- assisted Instructionthe Computer can be a tutor in effect relieving the teacher of many activities in his/her personal role as classroom tutor.

               Do you believe CAI in some future time can replace teachers in the classroom? Like. . . duhhh! I don’t believe in that thing, because I do believe that computers are just a program they maybe act like a teachers but they can’t be the teacher themselves, they do not have heart, they can’t love the students the way the teacher does.

             We tackled about “how about in the Philippines do you see how futuristic computers as tutors are in our Philippine educational scenario? Hmmmmm; honesty I keep on thinking that how? When? Really? Then suddenly I’ve realized that ooohh! Gosh! Did Philippines have their budget for this computers hahaha! Think of future? Hmmm. Well I guess maybe why not right?but reality No! gosh! Philippines doesn’t have enough budget for that so maybe we can provide that thing but not like those other developed countries they can provide it a lot because they are rich countries unlike us; but let us see I guess or I should say Nothing is Impossible!

Through computer technology, we can easily do the things that we are doing everyday, like for the students to do their assignments instead of searching for a book in the library. They can easily find it at the internet, for our mother to buy new appliances they can easily click it on the internet then, wooosshhhhooo! They will go to have it as fast as boy running at the field.

The Personal Computer (PC)

        This PC help us a lot, at home, school, office and etc. it is a tool for both audio-visual creations and media communication.

           This day ma’am Gallardo grouped us for another presentation according to her we are going to present it on how technologies affect our lives. Ma’am Gallardo gave us problems that we are going to execute in the class. These are networking, gaming/lottering, pornography and piracy. Our grouped got gaming/lottering. We present it in the class, we act, like a normal act because we already experiencing it, that’s why it is not a big deal to my group mates. As we presented our classmate were not so happy with our presentation as well as our professor because they said that it is not enough, not too convincing for them, I feel sorry as well sad for that well as I guess no one is perfect everyone commits mistakes but all in all it is okay all the presentation is good.

HIGHER THINKING SKILLS THROUGH IT-BASED PROJECTS

It is the students themselves who demonstrate higher thinking skills and creativity through such activities searching for information, organizing and synthesizing ideas, creating presentations, and the like.

 

These projects represent constructivist, containing the key elements of a constructivist approach to instruction, namely;

  • The teacher creating the learning environment
  • The teacher giving students the tools and facilities, and
  • The teacher facilitating learning

 

There are four IT-based projects conducive to develop higher thinking skills and creativity among learners.

Resource-based Projects

  • In these projects, the teacher steps out of the traditional role of being a content expert and information provider and instead let the students find their own facts and information.

Simple Creations

  • Students can also be assigned to create their software materials to supplement the need for relevant and effective materials.

 

Creating is more consonant with planning, making, assembling, designing, or building.

Today, students are expected to be not only cognitive, but also flexible, analytical and creative. In this lesson, there are methods proposed for the use of computer-based technologies as an integral support to higher thinking skills and creativity.

Nowadays, the change in evaluation approach referred to as MASS AMATEURIZATION, a term which implies a mass reach of student outputs.

           As we engage to this lesson our professor ma’am Gallardo grouped us into four, each group will create a criteria or matrix for evaluation, so in our group we create a criteria based on literary works then after that we are given an assignment. We need to find applications that we will going to rate so mine is my Periodic Table of Elements Application.
